Vision

Our aim in teaching PE is that all children should:

-          participate in a range of sports that encourage and promote their health and wellbeing, while developing their joy of being physically active.

-          develop and build physical competence and to enable them to confidently transfer these skills to any new challenges they may face in their life.

-          have the opportunity to enjoy and take part in a range of sports in both a non- competitive and competitive way, whatever their circumstances or ability.

Through PE and school sport, children build their knowledge and understanding of their bodies in action and the importance of regular physical activity, for a healthy, balanced lifestyle. They learn to develop their agility, balance, and coordination, body control and dexterity.  Children have the opportunity to develop lifelong skills by working independently and as part of a team. They learn to cooperate and to compete fairly, understanding their own and others’ roles.

Aims and Objectives

The curriculum for Physical Education aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities.
  • Are physically active for sustained periods of time.
  • Engage in competitive sports and activities.
  • Lead healthy, active lives.

Teaching and Learning in subject

Children are taught PE as part of the weekly timetable.  Each year group has two timetabled PE lessons each week.  As a school we offer many different extra- curricular activities for all children to attend. These are run by teachers, volunteers and specialist sports coaches. We also offer opportunities for children to compete against each other and other schools in the borough.

Curriculum Planning

iPEP is the PE scheme that we use as a school.  It is an interactive PE lesson planner and assessment tool that provides Ofsted approved short, medium and long term plans.  iPEP provides lesson units to cover the subject areas within PE of dance, gymnastics, athletics and games.
