Vision


The vision of Music at La Salette Catholic Primary School is that Music is embedded in every aspect of school life and our aspiration is that every child adopts a lifelong love of music. Please download the Music Policy for full details of our curriculum and extra-curriular provisions.


Aims and Objectives


The national curriculum for music aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians.
  • learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence
  • understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.


Teaching and Learning 


Children are taught music is a very practical way in La Salette. Music across the school consists of weekly singing sessions in class and in assemblies. Practical sessions in class take place including listening, appraising, composing and performing.

 

Curriculum Planning


KAPOW is a scheme of work for music that as a school we follow. It has a range of visual games and tools to help the children understand the inter-related dimensions of music. KAPOW focuses on developing the skills and understanding of performing, listening, composing and the history of Music.
