Vision
At La Salette Primary School we believe that Art and Design Technology stimulates creativity, imagination and originality. We believe that art and design gives our pupils the skills, concepts and knowledge necessary for them to express responses to ideas and experiences.
Aims and Objectives
The national curriculum for art and design aims to ensure that all pupils:
· produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
· become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
· evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
· know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
The national curriculum for design and technology aims to ensure that all pupils:
· develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world
· build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users
· critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others
· understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.
Teaching and Learning in subject
The teaching of Art and Design and Design Technology in La Salette is very practical. Children are provided with the resources they to explore creatively the different Art and Design skills. Children will study a range of different Art and Design techniques, including; drawing, painting, structure and craft and design, with the opportunity to use inspiration from Artists to create their own artwork. Children are taught technical skills focusing on sculpture, textiles, mechanisms, electrical and cooking, throughout the key stages.
Curriculum Planning
As a school, we follow the scheme ‘Kapow’ to ensure for consistency and fluency in all areas. Kapow provides visual tools and ques to help children understand the skills and techniques. Across the key stages, children will have the opportunity to express their creative ideas.
